UNOS | Listening session

An enigmatic and esoteric Filipino-Belgian producer and DJ based in Brussels, UNOS sets regularly include both colorful, eclectic music as well as heavy, hard-hitting tunes. Having claimed her place in the music scene as part of Singapore’s notorious underground electronic label Darker Than Wax, UNOS’ entrancing music gets people onto dance floors with a kinetic combination of house, techno, breaks, trance, ambient, and melodic music.

Over the years, UNOS shared the decks with many influential artists such as CC:DISCO!, Cinthie, Shy-One, Jamie Tiller, Dan Shake, DJ Boring, DJ EARL, Marco Weibel, Lefto, Ricky Razu, Dean Chew, and ALiA.
In 2019 and 2020 she released the first two volumes of Tropical Diskora, an annual compilation featuring Filipino electronic music artists in the Philippines and from the Diaspora, taking inspiration from the concept of the “Diskoral”, a makeshift outdoor disco celebration practiced in the Philippines. The project aims to encourage other artists to create music on their own terms, while also celebrating the Filipino identity. “As I have been working for the past few years on my musical growth, I’ve realised I wanted to learn more about my cultural roots,” UNOS said in an interview with Vice. “While discovering about the Filipino electronic music scene, I understood the lack of its representation in Belgium and worldwide. That’s when I came across the idea to promote electronic artists who are based in the Philippines, allowing their music to be heard on a global platform.”
Boodle Fight, UNOS’ debut EP, was released in March 2023. Borrowing its title from the exuberant Filipino dining tradition — a communal, bare-handed feast among friends and families — Boodle Fight highlights her sincere love for communities forged through club culture. The release was conceptualised during her first Asia tour through Singapore, Bangkok, and Manila in 2019, where the artist became acutely aware of the crucial role that community plays in sustaining a culture.
